Grade 2

Fluency, expression, and meaning

By 2nd grade, children should be reading with fluency and beginning to read for meaning. Our Grade 2 program bridges the gap between decoding and comprehension — building confident, expressive readers who love books.

What to Expect

  • Fluency timing and expression coaching
  • Formal progress monitoring every 6 weeks with parent report

FAQ

Common Questions

How do I know if my child needs a reading tutor?

Signs include difficulty recognizing letters or letter sounds, trouble blending sounds into words, reading significantly below grade level, avoiding reading, or a teacher recommendation. When in doubt, a free consultation can help clarify.

What is the Science of Reading?

The Science of Reading is a body of research spanning decades and thousands of studies that tells us how the brain learns to read. It shows that explicit, systematic phonics instruction — not guessing from pictures or context — is the most effective approach, especially for struggling readers.

How is EdVentures in Learning different from other tutoring services?

EdVentures in Learning specializes exclusively in early literacy using the Science of Reading — not a generalist tutoring approach. Every session is built on research-backed phonics instruction, delivered with warmth and joy that keeps young learners engaged and motivated.
